My Ideas to help rebuild Haiti

Haiti is going through one of it hardest times. After the earthquake, Haiti’s president has said that it would take one thousand dump trucks, one thousand days to clear the rubble. In my eyes, It was probably the most accurate assessment of the damage. Haiti is healing slowly. The international community has accomplished much to provide aid and rebuild Haiti. The activity from the media has pretty much died. Please make the decision to not forget Haiti.

I am not an economist but here are some ideas I have to help Haiti develop.

1.  I’m not sure if this possible but I think all of the rubble can be ground up and used again in construction. Whoever gets into this business can sell a virtually limitless supply of sand and cement mix.

2.  There should be a cash reward for plastic water bottles. I recommend 1/5 of a gourd, which equals 0.005 USD. The plastic can then be recycled at a profit. It would feed the poorest of the poor and help the environment. Best of all it would cost nothing. Plastic bottles like this can be found virtually anywhere in P.A.P. by the dump truck load.

3.  Non-recyclable trash and organic matter can be dumped into the bay of P.A.P along the shallow banks. Over time it will be come regular soil and give Haiti more land, turning worthless garbage into valuable ocean frontage. Cities like Boston have done this in years gone past because of the shortage of land.

Notice that none of my ideas help Haiti’s infrastructure. We all know that education, fixing the roads and all that stuff will rebuild the country. I have only listed my original thoughts that no one else is already doing.

  1. Sounds like a plan – where do I sign up to join the crew?

  2. Very good ideas Jeremie! I especially like the plastic water bottle idea as like you said there are so many in Haiti and recycling is a good thing!
