Conquering the Day

For a couple days now I have been feeling dry in my spirit. I thought it might be because of where I am in my devotions. I am currently plowing through some chapters in the bible that could be considered dry. Long chapters from the old testament that give detailed genealogies.

Last night I read a very inspiring post by Michael Hyatt called “Slaying you Dragons before breakfast.” Please take the time to read it, http://michaelhyatt.com/2007/01/slay-your-dragons-before-breakfast.html. He talks about his every day battle against the dragon of lethargy. The Dragon has three heads, Spiritual lethargy, Physical lethargy and intellectual lethargy. After I read this, I realized how right he really was.

I already have morning devotions and I do something intellectual everyday. That takes care of the Spiritual and intellectual heads. So what about the physical head?

I didn’t think that physical exercise had anything magical to it. Yet after reading the post I decided to try it. This morning I went out and explored the town. It was overcast and was only seventy degrees out. We also had rain throughout the night so there it was still mist around, like being high in the mountains. I brought my ipod along and listened to some of my favorite songs like “praise you in this storm” by Casting Crowns and “gives me you eyes” by Brandon Heath. As I walked the streets, I felt at peace with God and the world. Most of the time, I was the only person walking the streets. I felt completely free to sing out loud and I did.

When I got back to the house, my body, spirit and mind felt great. As of today I am an advocate for physical exercise. I want to exercise every day, at least for the rest of the summer. I think I will get into running.

I thought spending time exercising would decrease my productivity. I discovered that after I come home, my body feels great and I can easily focus on my task. I end up accomplishing much more. I have also watched in amazement over the past few weeks as my sister Carita, walks five miles every single day.  Rain or shine she walks.

Regarding Facebook, I officially deleted my account and the old page today. If you have not already switched to the official page, here is the link. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Jeremie-DeTellis/109057995811177?ref=ts

  1. Jeremie,

Excercise is very important! I need to make a committment to exercise too! I do agree one feels better afterwards. That is great Carita is walking 5 miles a day. Maybe I can get motivated to walk; I like to walk!!!
