Rethinking Facebook

I originally got into facebook without completely understanding what it really was, simply because a friend told me I should be on there. When I first joined the network, it was a blast being able to easily communicate with friends and family, which was otherwise impossible when you’re living in Haiti. I have observed that the more facebook friends I have, the more time consuming facebook gets. It’s not that I don’t like the interaction or that I have a busy schedule; I simply ask, where is the significance?       This summer I need to focus more than ever and part of the way I can accomplish that goal is by limiting my distractions. Facebook is one of them. I have decided that I no longer want to use facebook the way I do now.

Facebook has always been a big source of traffic for my blog. I get more visits to my blog from Facebook that any other source including direct traffic! Because I am expanding my horizons I want to reorganize my facebook marketing strategy while my audience is still small.

I don’t want to spend hours communicating on facebook but I don’t want to give up the traffic. I believe that I have found the solution. That’s why I have decided to delete my facebook profile. I will still have a presence on facebook though. I am switching from a normal facebook profile to the business version of facebook. I will merge my facebook profile with the page that I previously created for my blog and form the new official Jeremie DeTellis page. I will update it every time I have something to share. So the way I communicate is going to change. This means that any of my readers on facebook can still be notified when I share an update. Communication can still be on a personal level. I don’t want to give up the great traffic. The best part is that my time wasted on Facebook will soon be zero! I will still keep my facebook profile for a while so I can redirect as many people to the new page as possible. Here is the link to the New official Jeremie DeTellis Page, http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Jeremie-DeTellis/109057995811177?ref=ts. If you are on a facebook and are a member of the jeremiedetellis.com page, please do me a favor and switch to the new page.
Also, I am pretty sure that the auto import feature is not for the public. Does anyone know differently? I would love to just import my friends into the new page, instead of everyone taking the time to manually switch.
